The Planes of the Head cast is designed to help artists understand and master the fundamental structure of the human head. As the title suggests, this cast emphasizes the planes—the flat surfaces that define the head’s form and guide the placement of light and shadow.
Rib-Cage with Vertebrae
This particular model illustrates the 24 vertebrae: seven cervical vertebrae in the neck, twelve thoracic vertebrae in the chest, and five lumbar vertebrae in the lower back. It also presents a posterior view showing how the twelve ribs connect to the vertebral column, along with the inclusion of the sternum and sacrum.
Anatomical Ecorche
Écorché involves the sculpting of an anatomical model built out from the skeleton to the muscle masses (36 inches in height with 206 bones.) The Model begins with the construction of a proportionally accurate, highly detailed representation of the complete skeleton at one-half scale. The finished models shows interior and superficial musculo-skeletal structures and their effect on the kinesthetic character of surface appearance of form.
Equine Ecorche
An anatomical representation of a horse, (22in) with the skin removed to display the underlying musculature, bones, and other structures. The ecorché shows the complex arrangement of a horse's muscles, bones, ligaments and blood vessels.
David Full-Size Details
Copies of Michelangelo's famous statue, used by artists to study and practice drawing and sculpting. These casts are made from original Sculpture and are popular in art education for teaching students about form, proportion, and anatomy.
